Lisk (LSK) is a blockchain platform that enables developers to build, deploy, and manage decentralized applications (dApps) using JavaScript. Launched in 2016 by Max Kordek and Oliver Beddows, Lisk aims to simplify the process of creating blockchain applications by providing developers with a user-friendly framework and development kit.
Lisk utilizes a sidechain architecture, which allows developers to create their custom blockchains (sidechains) that are interoperable with the main Lisk blockchain. This architecture helps improve scalability, flexibility, and security by enabling each dApp to operate independently without impacting the performance of the main blockchain.
Lisk employs a Delegated Proof of Stake consensus mechanism, where token holders can vote for delegates to secure the network and validate transactions. Delegates are responsible for producing new blocks and maintaining the integrity of the blockchain, and they are rewarded with LSK tokens for their services.
LSK, the native cryptocurrency of the Lisk platform, is used to pay transaction fees, deploy smart contracts, and participate in the platform's governance through voting for delegates. The total supply of LSK tokens is capped at 129,464,691 LSK, with new tokens generated through block rewards and distributed to delegates and voters.
